Project Concern International (www.projectconcern.org) is a global health and humanitarian aid non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing and building healthy communities and saving the lives of children and families around the world. Project Concern international (PCI) was founded in San Diego in 1961 and has had substantial growth in recent years. This growth has led to the creation of a new position of Director of New Business Development. The Director of New Business Development (NBD) will provide strategic direction and guidance for the development and execution of business development strategies that align with PCI’s priorities, mission, vision and core values.
The Director is responsible for the management and continuous improvement of new business development procedures, market analysis processes, and relationship management systems leading to the development and timely submission of high quality proposals and increasingly successful program development and resource mobilization outcomes for the organization. This position can be based in the organization’s San Diego headquarters or in a field office in Washington D.C.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ensure that PCI’s new business development efforts are of the highest possible quality, maximizing potential for successful awards, by managing and improving systems, processes and procedures that will support successful resource mobilization efforts, including identification of new opportunities, adherence to institutional policies, and learning for performance improvement.
• Develop and manage PCI’s institutional systems for tracking and maintaining relevant relationships, both internally and with key external contacts such as partner and funding agency representatives.
• Supervise NBD staff and coordinate with the global NBD team, sustaining and developing a productive team of professionals through staff development, capacity building, mentoring and the strategic use of information for learning and performance enhancement.
• Provide support and guidance to major proposal preparation team leaders.
• Design and manage information gathering processes and systems to provide program, field and senor management with market information and analysis on donors, competitor/partner organizations, funding patterns and trends, and other information relevant to new business decisions and strategic positioning.
• Ensure optimal coordination and collaboration with the organization’s field teams, as well as with the technical team, operations unit, and the Institutional Advancement Department at IO.
• Represent the NBD function at Senior Management Team meetings.
Required Qualifications:
• Advanced degree (MBA or Masters in relevant field such as business management, international development, marketing or market research preferred
• NGO work experience in program leadership required International preferred
• 7 or more years of relevant, professional experience in international development, including new business development operations, management of market analysis and strategic planning.
• Experience with U.S. Government and USAID solicitations required.
• Proven capacity to effectively manage processes and proposals, as well as manage and mentor staff with various levels of skills and experience
• Strong background in the design and implementation of systems, policies and procedures
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong organizational skills, eg. manage complex deadlines, precise scheduling and multiple priorities
• Strong writing skills, specifically in the area of proposal development (writing, compilation and submission) including complex, multimillion dollar, multiyear proposals.
• Proven team leadership skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment with both technical and non-technical staff
• Excellent inter-personal and inter-cultural skills and oral presentation skills
• Spanish and/or French language capability preferred
• Interested and able to travel 25% of the time to exciting and remote field sites
